Dolphil clinic - Western Kenya
Dolphil Clinic, Western Kenya
This is a small but comprehensive clinic on the road from Kisumu to Siaya and is a satellite clinic for the District hospital. We have been supporting the clinic through the medical students who go there for placements every year through Adventure Alternative, and also through direct aid from the charity which supplies equipment and drugs.
Our future plan is to build an operating theatre for Dolphil which will turn this clinic into a serious satellite station for the whole region and provide access to surgical needs for a huge number of people.

Ulamba Clinic - Western Kenya
Medical assistance with births
and post-natal care is vital
On the Ulamba site is the clinic which serves several villages in the area and is used by Rotary Doctors weekly and will be used by a full time staff which is the next stage in this project. We have also built toilet blocks and a fence around the building.
The clinic was paid for and built by Roche Pharmaceuticals in County Clare, Ireland. We identified it as a very much-needed project and having built the structure we then spent a year trying to get it registered by the Ministry of Health. This is a very slow process in Kenya!
We have bought much of the furniture and equipment for the clinic and it is now running successfully. We are now in the stage of employing full time staff including a clinical officer and a nurse.
All of the children we support at the orphanage will receive free medical care here and members of the community will pay a nominal consultation fee.
There is plenty of potential for assistance here; we need funding for the staff costs and a whole array of medical equipment. Please contact us for more information on this.
The catchment area for the clinic covers several villages of
Ushirika Clinic, Nairobi
Ushirika is found in Kibera, the huge residential
slum area outside Nairobi. An estimated 800,000
people live here and Gavin has been working with this
clinic ever since it was built in 1995 by Medecins
sans Frontieres.
An inpatient ward now
Over time Moving Mountains has added many facilities to the clinic, enabling it to become now the largest and most comprehensive facility of its kind in Kibera. We have built a maternity ward, a large inpatient ward and wing for HIV/AIDS patients and community education. We have installed incinerator units, and made refurbishments to the consulting rooms. We also provide drugs for the pharmacy through donations made by Adventure Alternative for all the medical students we have workingå here.
We also support a clinical officer, a team of community health workers and also a senior nurse Ishmael Bosire who has been very instrumental in developing the clinic with our help over the years.
The clinic has two committees, one medical and one administrative. The medical committee is generally very good but the admin committee is often changed and lacks consistent, long term aims. Our MMK Director Rosie Gathirimu represents our views on the ground and our medical advisor Caroline Ngatha also works at the clinic full time.
Main sponsors for the clinic over the years include:
Skerries Community School (Africamp team which built the MM Wing)
A considerable number of medical students over the years
Granaghan Parish Council
